Digital Materiality

Abstract:

<aside> 💡 Since their early days, photographic methods have been used to document and reproduce art objects in research. Photography is still a very important tool to capture visual aspects. These photographic reproductions document essential characteristics of works of art, making it possible to view and conduct research with originals that are otherwise difficult to access. In addition, photography can reveal barely visible things, such as valuable additional information about the production process or the state and/or condition of an object.
